This exhibition (2011/01/22-29) by Taniguchi Harutake (谷口晴剛) at Gallery Tomo (ぎゃらりぃ朋) consisted of nihonga pictures similar to the one featured on the promotional card.  There was a gold theme running throughout all the pictures, and certainly gold looks very nice in nihonga paintings. [2012 Exhibition]

Matsuura Nobutoshi (松浦延年) Exhibition at Gallery La Mer (ギャラリー La Mer)

This exhibition (2011/01/24-29) by Matsuura Nobutoshi (松浦延年) at Gallery La Mer (ギャラリー La Mer) consisted of various near-solid-color pictures similar to the edge of two pictures shown side-by-side on the promotional card.  There was a mysterious depth to the pictures - as though the color ran very deep.

Yasukawa Atsushi (安川醇) Exhibition at Art Space Ginza-One (アートスペース銀座ワン) - (2011/01)

This exhibition (2011/01/24-29) by Yasukawa Atsushi (安川醇) at Art Space Ginza-One (アートスペース銀座ワン) consists of pictures (pen with water-color pencil coloring) drawn by the artist here and there in most parts of Japan.  What he has done (and continues to do I take it) is something I've always wanted to do with photography - go to the countryside, rent a car, and go about creating pictures of the scenery.  Two of the artist's pictures are shown here - the upper one from the promotional card and the lower one taken at the exhibition in Ginza.

This exhibition (2011/01/17-22) by 麻里菜展 (I didn't verify the pronunciation of the artist's name, but it seems to be at least partly "Marina", although I suspect part of that is altered as either a nickname or the name of the exhibit) at Ginza Ono Gallery-2 (小野画廊-2) consisted of pictures similar to (and including) the picture below (from the promotional card).  At first glance I imagined it to be a view of the coast or something like that, but the artist said it was based on a scene in her home.  Whatever it is, it's a nice picture!

Nakano Yasuo (仲野泰生) and Wada Akira (和田彰) Exhibition at Gallery Platform Studio (ギャラリープラットフォームスタジオ)

This exhibition (2011/01/17-22) was a joint effort by Nakano Yasuo (仲野泰生) and Wada Akira (和田彰), held at Gallery Platform Studio (ギャラリープラットフォームスタジオ) in Ginza.  I enjoyed looking at the exhibition and talking with the artists - and... I'm not sure how to describe the art.  It was unconventional and I wish I'd requested permission for a few close-ups in addition to the overall view I took (see photo below), as surely a picture in this case is worth 2,222 words.  (Apparently there was a live dance performance on the last day, but I wasn't able to go there that day.)

Masuda Group Exhibition-2 (マスだ展) at K's Gallery (2011/01/10-18) consists of sets of small wooden boxes painted in various ways - with each set done by a different person.  There is a large variety and some are quite interesting.  (Click [here] for a 360-degree movable picture of the exhibit.  It takes a little time to load, but then you can rotate the picture and see the entire exhibition.)

Kon Michiko (今道子) Exhibition at Gallery Kobo (巷房)

This exhibition (2011/01/10-22) by Kon Michiko (今道子) at Gallery Kobo (巷房) consists of a series of unique black and white photographs exhibited in the Kobo display spaces, as well as in Room-306, which is next to the Kobo Gallery on the same floor.  The first impression you get when glancing at the black and white images from a distance, is one of expected subtle black and white photography, but then as you study the specific images, many have very surprising content.  (The photo below is from the opening party in the main Kobo display space.)

This group exhibition (2011/01/10-16) entitled "24th Uchoten" (24th 有頂展) at Gallery Kubota-6F (ギャラリーくぼた6F) consists of many types of art - primarily paintings and photographs, but I also noticed a wood sculpture and a monitor showing a set of digital photos, etc.  As you can see from the second photo below, the gallery is a kind of maze.

"Hito-no-Kanji" (人の感字) - Book by Hayashi Kenzo (林建造)

This is a very cool little book of many intricate silhouettes of people - created from photos taken by Hayashi Kenzo (林建造), who takes out the backgrounds and assembles the resulting silhouettes into composite pictures that are fun to contemplate the details of.
In this latest in a series of silhouette books by the same artist, one kanji character is featured for each collection of silhouettes - such as in the picture below (from the book - cover title by Nakamura Makie 中村牧江).
The title 人の感字 combines 感 from 感じ (kanji - feelings, etc.) and 字 from 文字 (moji - character). Lurking behind this, obviously, is 漢字 (kanji - Chinese characters), which are playfully utilized in the book with the silhouetted figures demonstrating various kanji character meanings.

It's not a very thick book, but each page has a lot of people pictures on it and represents quite a time investment by the artist - with the result that you can spend several entertaining minutes on each page looking at the many details.

It's published by Nihon Kyozai, Inc. (日本教材システム株式会社), and its ISBN number is: ISBN978-4-316-80326-5 C0781  It just came out, so it might not be at Amazon, etc. right away.  If you're having trouble obtaining the book, let me know and I can contact the artist and and/or the publisher to find out how to obtain the book outside of Japan.

Art Unit HUST - Usugi Hideyuki (臼木英之) and Toyama Shingo (遠山伸吾) / ゆう画廊

This exhibition/installation (2011/01/24-29) by Art Unit HUST (Usugi Hideyuki 臼木英之 and Toyama Shingo 遠山伸吾) at YW gallery (ゆう画廊) consists of (among other details) the elements you can see in the photo on the promotional card and the 2nd and 3rd photos below (from the installation/exhibition site in Ginza 3-Chome).  Walking around the room and looking into the reflections on the curved surfaces is quite interesting.  A brief sample of the effect can be seen in this [video clip].

I have posted three video clips of this exhibition to YouTube:
